Paphiopedilum micranthum is a small to medium-sized terrestrial or lithophytic slipper orchid native to southern China and northern Vietnam, where it grows on steep limestone cliffs and forested slopes at elevations of about 600–1700 meters.

Features:

  • Growth type: Terrestrial to lithophytic slipper orchid from limestone habitats
  • Habit: Compact rosette with 3–5 mottled leaves, often purple beneath
  • Flower: Single large bloom with a rounded, inflated pouch (white to pink)
  • Petals & sepals: Green to pink with darker tessellated markings
  • Inflorescence: Erect stem bearing one flower
  • Blooming: Late winter to early summer

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright, filtered light; avoid direct sun
  • Watering: Keep evenly moist but not soggy; do not let dry out completely
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50–70%+)
  • Temperature: Cool to intermediate; prefers some seasonal cooling
  • Substrate: Well-draining mix (fine bark, perlite, sphagnum, optional limestone chips)
  • Fertilizer: Apply diluted fertilizer regularly during growth
  • Water quality: Use low-mineral water to prevent salt buildup
