Abrodictyum obscurum is a delicate and visually striking fern native to tropical rainforests across Southeast Asia and parts of Oceania. Belonging to the family Hymenophyllaceae, this species is known for its translucent, finely divided fronds and unique reproductive structures.
Features:
-
Habitat: Found in humid, shaded environments such as rainforests, often near streams or waterfalls.
-
Growth Form: Terrestrial or epiphytic, growing on rocks or tree trunks.
-
Fronds: Thin, translucent, and finely divided, typically 13–32 cm long; the lamina is 3-pinnate to 3-pinnate-pinnatifid, ovate to broadly triangular, with ultimate segments that are flat or curled.
-
Reproductive Structures: Sori are borne on short lobes in the axils of tertiary segments; the involucre is cylindrical, 1.5–2 mm long, and narrowly winged, with a long-exserted, curved receptacle projecting up to 1.5 cm beyond the mouth of the involucre.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Prefers low to moderate indirect light; avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
-
Humidity: Requires high humidity levels, ideally above 70%, making it perfect for a terrarium.
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm environments; temperatures between 20°C and 30°C (68°F–86°F) are ideal.
-
Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but not waterlogged; use distilled or rainwater to prevent mineral buildup.
