Adiantum mariesii, also known as the Micro Fern, is a delicate species native to China, occurring in regions such as Guangxi, Guizhou, Hubei, and Sichuan. It naturally thrives on wet rock ledges and crevices where humidity is consistently high and moisture abundant.
Features:
-
Very small “micro-fern” species, forming tiny, delicate clumps.
-
Fronds are fine, with green foliage, new growth sometimes with a slight yellow-green or lighter tint.
-
Rhizomatous / clumping growth habit.
Care Tips:
-
Keep in high humidity; since it grows on wet rocks, it needs moisture in both substrate and air.
-
Substrate should be very well drained yet keep some moisture — a mix of substrates that mimic rock crevices (sand, perlite, moss/sphagnum) works well.
-
Light: medium light, filtered shade works best. Avoid strong direct sun that can dry out the plant.
-
Temperature: likes mild, stable conditions; avoid extremes. Because it's from temperate/ subtropical regions, cold intolerance is a concern.
