Angraecum urschianum is a rare miniature epiphytic orchid native to the mossy montane rainforests of east-central Madagascar, where it grows at approximately 1,000–1,200 m (3,300–3,900 ft). It forms a compact plant with stiff, dark green, keeled leaves featuring raised pale markings and distinctly toothed, unevenly bilobed tips. In autumn, several short, axillary inflorescences may emerge simultaneously, each carrying a solitary, elegant white flower measuring around 2.5 cm (1 in) across. Its compact size, unusual textured foliage, and relatively large flowers make A. urschianum a fascinating choice for collectors of miniature Angraecum species.
Care Tips:
- Provide bright filtered light or gentle morning sun, avoiding harsh midday exposure.
- Maintain intermediate to cool temperatures, ideally with a noticeable day/night temperature difference.
- Keep humidity around 60–80% with excellent air circulation.
- Use a very open, fast-draining orchid medium or mount the plant to provide excellent root aeration.
- Water thoroughly, then allow the medium to become nearly dry before watering again; avoid prolonged soggy conditions.
- Fertilize lightly at ¼–½ strength during active growth and reduce feeding during the cooler resting period.
- Repot after flowering or when new root growth begins, disturbing the delicate roots as little as possible.
