Argostemma sp. “White Veins”, a member of the genus Argostemma in the family Rubiaceae, is native to West Kalimantan. Its round green leaves are distinguished by a striking central white vein, giving the plant a delicate yet eye-catching appearance. With its preference for humid, shaded conditions, this species is especially well suited for terrarium or vivarium culture.
Care Tips:
Light: Bright indirect light or filtered shade. Avoid strong direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves.
Humidity: High humidity is important (70-90% or higher). These are understory plants in tropical forests, so they like a moist atmosphere. Misting or placing in a glass terrarium / vivarium helps.
Temperature: Warm conditions, typical tropical ambient temperatures of around 24-28 °C (75-82 °F) are good; avoid cold drafts or extreme drops.
Soil / Substrate: Use a substrate that retains moisture but has good drainage — e.g. leaf litter, fine bark, peat or sphagnum mix, possibly some stone or mineral component for stability. Avoid heavy soils that stay soggy.
Watering: Keep substrate evenly moist. Let top layer dry slightly before watering again, but never allow complete drying for extended periods. Good water quality (low in salts) is better.
Air Flow: Good air circulation is needed, especially in high humidity conditions, to avoid fungal or rot issues.
