Asplenium pulcherrimum is a lithophytic fern species belonging to the Aspleniaceae family. It is native to subtropical regions of southern China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Borneo (Sarawak). This fern typically inhabits limestone terrains, growing in crevices where it thrives in humid, shaded environments.

Features:

  • Fronds: Pinnate, measuring approximately 10–12 cm in length and 2.5–3 cm in width. The fronds are leathery with 3–4 times branching, and the terminal segments are sharp. Each leaflet has a single vein, and sporangia are located on one side of the leaf veins.

  • Stipe: The petiole is about 5–8 cm long, green on the surface, purple-black on the underside, and covered with scales at the base.

  • Sporangia: Located on the veins of the terminal leaflets, they are line-shaped.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers low light conditions; place it in a bright location without direct sunlight.

  • Temperature: Ideal temperature range is 18–24°C (64–75°F), avoiding frost or cold temperatures.

  • Humidity: Enjoys high humidity; mist the fern regularly or use a humidifier to maintain the moisture in the air, especially in a terrarium environment.

  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging.

  • Soil: Use well-draining, slightly acidic soil, mixing peat moss and perlite for good aeration.

  • Fertilizing: Use a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during the growing season.

  • Propagation: Can be propagated by spores.
