Begonia austroguangxiensis

Begonia austroguangxiensis is native to Guangxi, China. Its leaves are asymmetrical and heart-shaped, with a relatively thick texture. The overall base color ranges from cool-toned silver-gray to gray-green. From the point where the petiole meets the leaf, dark green to nearly black radiating patterns extend outward, appearing natural and organic, reminiscent of ink-wash paintings or the silhouette of torn leaves. The transition between the dark markings and the pale silvery background is soft and fluid, while irregular light-colored speckles scattered across the surface add depth and a distinctly wild, natural character to the foliage.

Care Tips:

• Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and dull the silvery tones. Low light may result in weaker growth and reduced contrast in leaf patterns.

• Watering: Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist. Water when the top 2–3 cm (about 1 inch) of the soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging or allowing the soil to dry out completely.

• Soil: Use a well-draining, airy growing medium, such as a peat- or coco-coir-based mix amended with perlite or pumice. This helps prevent root rot while maintaining adequate moisture.

• Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (around 50–70%). A humidifier or humidity tray is beneficial. Avoid misting directly onto the leaves.

• Temperature: Thrives in stable, warm conditions between 18–24 °C (65–75 °F). Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

• Air Circulation: Gentle airflow is important to reduce the risk of fungal issues, especially in higher humidity environments.

• Fertilizing: Feed lightly during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertilizer every 4–6 weeks. Overfertilizing can damage the sensitive root system.
