Begonia ‘Candy Stripes’ is a rhizomatous begonia with broad, slightly asymmetrical leaves that have a velvety texture and a soft, matte sheen. Their deep green or dark-toned base is overlaid with irregular streaks of pink, silver, and pale cream, creating a striking “candy-stripe” pattern across the surface. The veins appear subtly raised, adding dimension to each leaf, while the edges may be gently scalloped. The plant typically reaches about 8–12 inches (20–30 cm) in height when mature, making it ideal for small pots, tabletops, shelves, or indoor plant collections.

Features:

  • Distinctive striped foliage with pink, silver, and cream streaks over a deep green base.

  • Velvety, matte leaf texture that enhances its ornamental appeal.

  • Moderate mature size, reaching about 8–12 inches (20–30 cm), suitable for indoor spaces.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too little light (especially heavy shade) may dull the leaf coloration; plants may lose their vibrant tone if kept in deep shade.

  • Water: Let the soil dry slightly between waterings. For a small 5″-pot houseplant, about 0.5–0.8 cups every ~9 days is often recommended (assuming no direct sunlight).

  • Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix — something with peat/coir and perlite/vermiculite for good drainage. This helps prevent root rot (a common issue if soil stays soggy).

  • Temperature: Prefers warmth. Ideally kept in a range around 60–75 °F (≈ 16–24 °C); avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature drops below ~55 °F.

  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity tends to help, especially when the plant is young or just moved to a new environment. Many growers recommend giving new plants a gentle “big-move recovery” under elevated humidity (e.g. cover / terrarium / clear box) gradually increasing light exposure.

  • Repotting / Nutrients: Repot or refresh soil when the plant doubles in size or at least once a year. Fresh soil renews nutrients and supports healthy growth.
