Begonia 'Cracklin' Rosie' is a striking hybrid begonia developed by Walter Dworkin, named after Neil Diamond's song "Cracklin' Rosie."
Features:
-
Foliage: The leaves are large and bronze when young, maturing to a dark green with numerous silver or pink spots. The undersides are a vivid red, which becomes more apparent due to the natural curl of the leaves.
-
Growth Habit: As an upright cane-type begonia, 'Cracklin' Rosie' can reach heights of 12 to 24 inches.
-
Flowers: While not blooming profusely, it occasionally produces clusters of pink flowers.
Care Tips:
Light
-
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Watering
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.
Soil
-
Use a well-draining, humus-rich potting mix.
Temperature & Humidity
-
Thrives in temperatures between 65°F and 95°F.
-
Prefers humidity levels between 40% and 60%.
Fertilization
-
Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).
Pruning & Repotting
-
Prune as needed to maintain shape and remove dead or damaged leaves.
-
Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
