Begonia ‘Cuba’ is a hybrid begonia from Ukraine, admired for its bold color contrast. The leaves are edged in dark brown-black, while the centers gradually deepen from green to a rich brown-black as the plant matures. Bright green highlights remain near the margins, accented by fine silvery speckles and vivid red veins.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun which may scorch the leaves.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch to dry slightly before watering again.
-
Humidity: Prefers high humidity (50–70%). Use a humidifier or place on a pebble tray if air is dry.
-
Temperature: Thrives in 18–26 °C (65–78 °F); protect from drafts and cold below 15 °C (60 °F).
-
Soil: Well-draining, airy soil mix (peat + perlite recommended).
-
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during growing season with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer.
-
Pruning: Remove dead or yellowing leaves to encourage healthy growth.
-
Potting: Repot every 1–2 years in spring when rootbound.
