Begonia ‘Dress Code’ features leaves with a bold, high-contrast pattern. The center of each leaf and the outer margin are very dark, appearing deep burgundy to nearly black. The dark edge is sprinkled with fine silver-white speckles that add subtle texture and sparkle. Between the dark center and the dark margin lies a broad silver-white band that follows the leaf veins, creating a layered, symmetrical look. This refined contrast gives the plant an elegant, almost tailored appearance.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while low light may dull the contrast and slow growth.
-
Water: Keep the soil lightly and evenly moist, but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Always ensure good drainage.
-
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Use a humidifier or place the plant near other plants. Avoid misting directly on the leaves.
-
Temperature: Thrives between 18–26 °C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix—peat- or coco-based soil with perlite works well.
-
Fertilizer: Feed lightly during the growing season (spring to summer) with a diluted balanced fertilizer every 3–4 weeks.
-
Air circulation: Good airflow helps prevent fungal issues, but avoid strong direct wind.
-
Maintenance: Remove damaged or old leaves to keep the plant healthy and maintain its neat appearance.
