Begonia erectocarpa, also known as the Tuyen Quang begonia, is a rare and striking species native to Vietnam’s Tuyen Quang province. This begonia is renowned for its beautifully patterned leaves, which are dark green with prominent white spots. Under low-light conditions, the leaves transform into a soft blue hue, making it an even more captivating addition to your plant collection.
Features:
- Leaf Appearance: Dark green leaves with distinct white spots, transitioning to a rich rust color when new growth appears. As the plant matures, the leaves develop a beautiful green and white pattern, and under low light, they turn blue.
- Underside of Leaves: The undersides of the leaves are reddish-brown, covered with fine hairs, adding to the plant's ornamental appeal.
Natural Habitat: Begonia erectocarpa thrives in the tropical evergreen lowland rainforests and broad-leaved forests of Vietnam, typically growing at elevations between 400 to 700 meters above sea level.
Cultivation Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright indirect light or dappled shade. In lower light conditions, the leaves will adopt a unique blue tint.
- Humidity: Requires high humidity, ideally between 80% and 100%.
- Watering: Keep the soil surface moist by misting when dry, but avoid overwatering.
- Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 18°C to 24°C (65°F to 75°F).
Due to its specific care needs, Begonia erectocarpa is best suited for cultivation in controlled environments such as terrariums or greenhouses.
Add Begonia erectocarpa to your collection for its stunning beauty and unique leaf color transformation under low light.
