Begonia fuyangii belongs to Begonia sect. Coelocentrum, a group of begonias often associated with limestone (karst) habitats in southern China. The leaf surface is pale green, with irregular silvery-white spots and patches scattered toward the leaf margins.
Care Tips:
-
Light:
-
Provide bright, indirect light.
-
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade the silvery markings.
-
Gentle morning light is acceptable.
-
-
Temperature:
-
Prefers warm conditions, ideally 18–28 °C.
-
Protect from temperatures below 12 °C, as prolonged cold may cause leaf drop or rot.
-
-
Humidity:
-
Thrives in moderate to high humidity (60–80%).
-
Good air circulation is important to prevent fungal issues.
-
Avoid misting directly on leaves.
-
-
Watering:
-
Keep the substrate evenly moist but never waterlogged.
-
Allow the top layer of the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings.
-
Reduce watering in cooler seasons.
-
-
Soil / Substrate:
-
Use a well-draining, airy mix, such as fine bark, pumice, or perlite, with a small amount of organic matter.
-
Slightly alkaline substrates can be beneficial, reflecting its limestone-origin habitat.
-
-
Fertilization:
-
Feed lightly during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertilizer (¼–½ strength) every 3–4 weeks.
-
Avoid overfeeding.
-
-
Potting & Roots:
-
Shallow pots are recommended, as plants in sect. Coelocentrum often have creeping rhizomes.
-
Ensure excellent drainage.
-
-
General Notes:
-
Stable conditions are key.
-
Sudden changes in temperature, humidity, or watering may stress the plant and cause leaf damage.
