Begonia 'Pink Sally' is a hybrid begonia, with one of its parent species being Begonia edulis. It is known for its striking, multi-coloured foliage: both the leaf centre and outer edges share the same deep reddish-purple to wine-red tone, while the broad middle band transitions into a vivid green. The entire leaf surface is adorned with shimmering pink or white metallic speckles, giving the plant a radiant, jewel-like appearance. In low-light conditions, the leaves may shift toward a beautiful bluish to blue-purple tone, adding even more visual appeal.
Features:
-
Striking Tricolor Foliage: Leaves display a bold colour pattern with a deep reddish-purple (wine-red) centre and edges, contrasted by a broad green mid-band.
-
Metallic Speckling: The entire leaf surface is adorned with shimmering pink or white metallic spots, giving a jewel-like, iridescent appearance.
-
Low-light coloration: Leaves can develop an attractive bluish to blue-purple sheen in lower light levels.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright indirect light is ideal; avoid direct sun. Low light is tolerated and may intensify bluish tones.
-
Watering: Keep the soil slightly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering.
-
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%). Avoid placing near dry air vents.
-
Temperature: Best in warm conditions (18–26°C / 65–78°F). Protect from cold drafts.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining, airy begonia or aroid mix.
-
Fertilizer: Feed lightly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
