Begonia U682 was discovered in Irian Jaya, the Indonesian part of West New Guinea. It was initially considered an unidentified species and given the number U682, but is now believed to be a naturally occurring hybrid, as identified by botanist Wisnu Ardi.

Features:

  • It presents a shrub-like, somewhat upright or cane-type habit.

  • Leaves are eye-catching: asymmetrical with silver-green blades, bold olive-green veins, wavy margins, and a red-toned reverse. The contrast is striking.

  • As it matures, it produces bright pink flowers that bloom profusely. Female flowers have a vivid pink ovary and lighter tepals; males typically exhibit two pink tepals.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers bright but indirect or filtered light.

  • Temperature: Thrives between 45 °F to 95 °F (7 °C to 35 °C).

  • Humidity: Likes moderate to high humidity—around 40–60%—and does especially well in terrariums or greenhouses.

  • Watering & Soil: Best grown in well-draining soil, and water when the soil is somewhat dry to the touch.

  • Size: Can reach 2 to 3 feet tall (roughly 60–90 cm) when mature.
