Brassavola cucullata is a medium-sized epiphytic orchid with slender, cylindrical stems and a single apical leaf. It produces spidery, pale flowers that may be white to creamy and sometimes take on a slight reddish tint after cold exposure. The flowers are noted for a nocturnal fragrance that can be musty or soapy, typical of moth-pollinated orchids.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright light is best — strong indirect light and some morning/evening sun help promote blooming.

  • Temperature: Prefers intermediate to warm conditions (roughly 18–30 °C / 65–86 °F).

  • Watering: Water when the medium begins to dry but avoid letting roots sit in water. Mounted plants may need more frequent misting or watering.

  • Humidity & Airflow: High humidity (around 60–80%) with good airflow prevents rot and mimics its native environment.

  • Growing Medium: Excellent drainage is crucial — coarse bark or cork mounts are ideal, or very open orchid mixes.

  • Fertilizer: Light, regular feeding during active growth encourages strong growth and flowering.
