Brassocatanthe Sun Mei Gold is a hybrid resulting from a cross between Bc. Richard Mueller × Ctt. Sun Mei Star. Due to its parentage, this orchid combines traits from Brassocattleya and Cattlianthe ancestors, producing rich Cattleya-alliance flower forms with the added influence of fragrance associated with Brassavola heritage.
Care Tips:
-
Light:
-
Bright, indirect light is ideal — avoid hot midday sun which can scorch leaves.
-
East or west exposure works well for strong but filtered light.
-
-
Watering:
-
Water thoroughly when the potting medium begins to dry; do not keep roots constantly wet.
-
Good drainage is essential — orchid bark or mixed media helps.
-
-
Temperature:
-
Intermediate to warm: ~65–85 °F (18–29 °C) during the day.
-
Slightly cooler nights can help trigger flowering.
-
-
Humidity & Airflow:
-
Moderate humidity (~50–70%) benefits growth.
-
Good air circulation helps prevent rot and disease.
-
-
Potting & Medium:
-
Use a well‑draining orchid mix (medium bark + perlite/charcoal).
-
Repot every 1–2 years or when media begins to break down.
-
-
Fertilizing:
-
During active growth, feed monthly with diluted orchid fertilizer.
-
Reduce feeding during slower or resting periods.
-
-
General Tips:
-
Regular division (when plant becomes large) keeps plants vigorous.
-
Monitor leaf color — medium bright green indicates good light levels.
