Brassocattleya Bessho is a Brassocattleya hybrid resulting from a cross between Cattleya tenebrosa (seed parent) and Brassavola nodosa (pollen parent). This orchid combines the large, showy flowers and classic Cattleya form of C. tenebrosa with the vigorous growth habit, star-shaped blooms, and light fragrance typical of B. nodosa. The hybrid produces striking, epiphytic blooms that reflect the distinctive traits of both parent species, making it a popular choice among Cattleya-alliance enthusiasts.

Care Tips:

  • Light

    • Bright, indirect light is ideal.

    • Morning or late afternoon sun is acceptable; avoid harsh midday sun.

    • Medium green leaves indicate proper light; dark green = too little, yellowish = too much.

  • Watering

    • Water thoroughly when the potting medium begins to dry.

    • Allow the medium to dry slightly between waterings.

    • Avoid standing water; ensure excellent drainage.

  • Temperature

    • Intermediate to warm conditions preferred.

    • Day: ~21–27 °C (70–80 °F)

    • Night: not below ~15–18 °C (60–65 °F)

  • Humidity & Airflow

    • Moderate humidity (50–70%) helps growth.

    • Provide good air circulation to prevent fungal or bacterial issues.

  • Potting Medium & Repotting

    • Use a well-draining mix (orchid bark + charcoal + perlite).

    • Repot every 1–2 years or when medium breaks down.

    • Can also be mounted with frequent watering if desired.

  • Fertilizing

    • Use a balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to half strength during active growth.

    • Apply every 2–4 weeks; reduce feeding in cooler or dormant periods.

  • Flowering Notes

    • Mature plants often bloom reliably once or twice per year.

    • Flowers combine Cattleya showiness with Brassavola fragrance and vigor.
