Brassocattleya Rustic Spots ‘H&R’ is a Cattleya-alliance intergeneric hybrid resulting from a cross between Bc. Richard Mueller × Cattleya Landate. This orchid is noted for its striking spotted flowers, typically displaying a butterscotch to deep yellow background accented with wine-red spots or irregular squiggles. As the blooms mature, the coloration often changes noticeably, sometimes opening with a more orange-red tone and gradually fading toward yellow, while the contrasting spots remain vivid and prominent.
Care Tips:
-
Light:
-
Bright, indirect light (similar to Cattleya care).
-
Morning or late afternoon sun can be beneficial.
-
Too little light may reduce flowering.
-
-
Watering:
-
Water when the potting medium begins to dry.
-
Allow medium to dry slightly between waterings; avoid constantly wet roots.
-
Orchids adapted to dry-out cycles do best with good drainage.
-
-
Temperature:
-
Intermediate to warm conditions are preferred.
-
Daytime ~ 70–85 °F (21–29 °C); nights moderately cooler but not cold.
-
-
Humidity & Airflow:
-
Moderate to high humidity (~50–70%) helps growth.
-
Provide good air movement to reduce risk of rot or fungal issues.
-
-
Potting Medium & Repotting:
-
Use a well-draining orchid mix (bark, charcoal, perlite).
-
Repot every 1–2 years when the medium breaks down.
-
Mounted or pot culture both work with proper watering.
-
-
Fertilizing:
-
Feed with a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth (spring/summer).
-
Reduce feeding during cooler or slower growth periods. (General cattleya practice)
-
-
Flowering Notes:
-
Mature plants may bloom more than once per year under good care.
-
Flowers often transition color and can be fragrant.
