Bulbophyllum affine produces small, pale yellow to green flowers adorned with purple veins and a lip featuring purple margins. The flowers are borne singly from the base of the pseudobulbs or along the rhizome between them.
Care Tips:
Growing Medium
-
Mounting: Preferably mounted on tree fern or cork bark to mimic their natural epiphytic habitat.
-
Potting: If potted, use a well-draining mix of bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss.
Watering
-
Frequency: Maintain consistent moisture, allowing the medium to dry slightly between waterings.
-
Water Quality: Use rainwater or distilled water to prevent mineral buildup.
Light
-
Intensity: Provide bright, indirect light.
-
Placement: Ideal locations include east-facing windows or shaded areas that receive filtered sunlight.
Temperature & Humidity
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions with daytime temperatures between 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F).
-
Humidity: Requires high humidity levels, ideally between 60% and 90%, to replicate its native environment.
Air Circulation
-
Importance: Good air circulation is crucial to prevent fungal infections and promote healthy growth.
Fertilization
-
Type: Use a balanced orchid fertilizer.
-
Schedule: Apply during the growing season (spring through early fall), reducing or halting during the rest period.
