Bulbophyllum geniculiferum is a diminutive epiphytic orchid species endemic to the lowland forests of Papua New Guinea, typically found at elevations between 300 and 500 meters above sea level. This orchid is very small, making it perfect for terrariums where space and humidity can be carefully controlled.

Features:

  • Pseudobulbs: Compact and closely spaced, measuring approximately 0.8–0.9 cm in length and width. They are obliquely ovoid to globose in shape and longitudinally grooved.

  • Leaves: Oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, with dimensions of about 5.2–7.6 cm in length and 1.6–2 cm in width. The leaves are very shortly acutely acuminate, apiculate, with a narrowed and conduplicate base. The midrib above is grooved and fleshy.

Care Tips:

  • Temperature: Prefers warm to cool (intermediate) conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from 30°C to 35°C (86°F to 95°F) and nighttime temperatures between 22°C and 28°C (72°F to 82°F).

  • Watering: Requires constant moisture but should not be kept waterlogged. Regular misting can help maintain the necessary humidity levels.

  • Light: Thrives in bright morning light or shaded afternoon light. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn.

  • Air Circulation: Beneficial air movement is important to prevent fungal infections and to mimic its natural habitat.
