Bulbophyllum longibrachiatum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum, belonging to the section Cirrhopetalum. It is native to southeastern China and Vietnam, growing at elevations of 540–1,600 meters above sea level.
Features:
-
Growth Habit: Small-sized, epiphytic or occasional lithophytic orchid
-
Flowering Season: Typically blooms in the fall
-
Flower Characteristics: Features long, bract-like sepals that give it the common name "Long-bracted Bulbophyllum"
Care Tips:
-
Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
-
Temperature: Maintain daytime temperatures between 20–27°C (68–80°F) and nighttime temperatures around 15–18°C (59–64°F). A slight drop in temperature at night can promote flowering.
-
Humidity: Keep humidity levels between 60% and 90%. Higher humidity is beneficial, especially during the growing season.
-
Watering: Water regularly, ensuring the growing medium remains moist but not waterlogged. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings.
-
Air Circulation: Good air movement is essential to prevent fungal issues. Consider using a small fan to improve airflow around the plant.
-
Fertilization: Apply a balanced orchid fertilizer at half strength during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding during the dormant period (fall and winter).
-
Mounting: This species can be mounted on tree fern slabs or grown in a well-draining bark mix. Ensure the medium provides adequate drainage to prevent root rot.
-
Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the growing medium breaks down. It's best to repot during the active growing season to minimize stress on the plant.
