Bulbophyllum muscarirubrum is a miniature epiphytic orchid species native to Thailand, Myanmar, and Yunnan Province, China. It thrives in cool to intermediate elevations, typically between 1,000 and 1,500 meters above sea level, in humid montane forests.

Features:

  • Size: Miniature, compact growth habit.

  • Pseudobulbs: Globular to slightly flattened, closely spaced along a creeping rhizome.

  • Leaves: Two apical, deciduous, greyish-green, waxy, lanceolate leaves that fall before blooming in the spring.

  • Flowers: Small, numerous, approximately 0.3 cm in size, appearing in dense clusters of 10 to 15 on a basal inflorescence.

  • Blooming Season: Spring.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light; avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.

  • Temperature: Maintain daytime temperatures between 20°C and 27°C (68°F to 80°F); nighttime temperatures should not drop below 15°C (59°F).

  • Humidity: High humidity is essential; aim for levels between 60% and 90%.

  • Watering: Water regularly, ensuring the growing medium is moist but not waterlogged. Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

  • Substrate: Use a well-draining mix, such as bark or sphagnum moss, to prevent root rot.

  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced orchid fertilizer during the growing season; reduce feeding during the dormant period.
