Bulbophyllum sigaldiae is a rare and intriguing orchid species belonging to the genus Bulbophyllum. First described by Guillaumin in 1955, it is native to Vietnam and Thailand. This mini-miniature epiphytic orchid typically grows in tropical or subtropical forests, often on tree trunks or branches in shaded, humid environments, at elevations of around 900 to 1500 meters. It thrives in warm to cool conditions.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it's best to place the plant in a location where it receives filtered light.
-
Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 18°C and 25°C (64°F to 77°F). Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 15°C (59°F) to prevent stress.
-
Humidity: High humidity levels are essential, ideally between 60% and 80%. Regular misting or the use of a humidity tray can help maintain the required moisture levels.
-
Watering: Water the plant regularly, allowing the potting medium to dry slightly between waterings. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
-
Fertilization: During the growing season, apply a balanced orchid fertilizer every 2 weeks. Reduce feeding during the dormant period to avoid over-fertilization.
-
Rest Period: Bulbophyllum sigaldiae experiences a rest period during the dry season. During this time, reduce watering and maintain slightly cooler temperatures to mimic its natural environment.
