Cattleya amethystoglossa f. semi-alba ‘Amason’ is a distinctive semi-alba form of Cattleya amethystoglossa, prized for its contrasting floral coloration. The flowers typically feature pale to white sepals and petals, complemented by a richly colored purple to amethyst lip. Like the species, it has tall, cylindrical pseudobulbs bearing two leathery leaves and produces clusters of fleshy flowers. Native to Brazil, Cattleya amethystoglossa is a bifoliate epiphytic orchid that thrives in bright light, good airflow and a well-drained growing medium.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Provide bright light, including gentle morning sunlight. Avoid harsh midday sun if it causes leaf scorching.
-
Watering: Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the medium to approach dryness between waterings.
-
Growing Medium: Use a very open orchid mix containing medium-grade bark, charcoal and perlite, with excellent drainage.
-
Humidity: Maintain approximately 50–70% humidity with good air circulation.
-
Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions are suitable, around 20–32°C (68–90°F) during the day.
-
Fertilizing: Apply a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth.
-
Airflow: Provide good airflow to help the roots dry quickly and reduce fungal problems.
-
Rest Period: Reduce watering when growth slows, but avoid prolonged severe dehydration.
-
Flowering: Bright light, mature pseudobulbs and appropriate seasonal watering help support flowering.
