Cattleya lueddemanniana rubra 'Infierno' is a select clone within the red (“rubra”) color form of the species, prized for its exceptionally deep, saturated pigmentation and strong flower substance. Originating from the Venezuelan species Cattleya lueddemanniana, this form represents line-bred selections emphasizing intense ruby to wine-red tones, often combined with a bold, velvety lip displaying darker purple hues and a contrasting yellow or golden throat. The flowers are large, frequently approaching 18–21 cm in natural spread, highly fragrant, and carried in small clusters on mature pseudobulbs. As a named clone, ‘Infierno’ is expected to show more consistency than seedlings, typically expressing richer color, heavier texture, and a more dramatic visual impact compared to standard rubra forms.
Care Tips:
- Provide bright light (high, filtered light; some morning sun improves blooming)
- Water thoroughly during active growth but allow roots to dry between watering
- Use a fast-draining medium such as coarse bark; excellent aeration is essential
- Maintain warm to intermediate temperatures and good air movement
- Moderate humidity (50–70%) supports optimal growth and flowering
- Repot after flowering when new roots begin to emerge for best establishment
