Cattleya schroederae 'Selected × KS' is a carefully selected seedling cross developed to combine outstanding flower form, substance, fragrance, and vigor from superior C. schroederae parents. Plants from this cross produce large, intensely fragrant blooms measuring approximately 15–18 cm (6–7 in) across, with broad white to soft blush petals, excellent substance, and gracefully ruffled segments. The prominent lip features rich lavender to rose-purple tones surrounding a brilliant golden-yellow throat, creating the elegant contrast for which the species is renowned. As a selected breeding line, individual seedlings may vary slightly in color intensity and flower shape, but all retain the refined beauty, sweet fragrance, and classic charm that make Cattleya schroederae one of the most treasured Colombian species.
Care Tips:
- Provide bright, filtered light or several hours of gentle morning sun to encourage vigorous growth and reliable flowering.
- Grow in a coarse, fast-draining orchid bark mix or an open basket with excellent root aeration.
- Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the potting medium to dry slightly between waterings.
- Reduce watering after pseudobulbs mature, then resume regular watering when new growth and roots emerge.
- Maintain intermediate temperatures (16–26°C / 60–80°F), 50–70% humidity, and strong air circulation.
- Fertilize regularly with a balanced orchid fertilizer at quarter- to half-strength during the growing season, reducing feeding during the resting period.
- Repot only when new roots begin to emerge to minimize root disturbance and encourage rapid establishment.
