Cattlianthe Chief Berry is an orchid hybrid in the Cattlianthe genus (abbreviated Ctt.), a cross between Cattlianthe Sunrise Doll and Cattleya Love Castle. This hybrid typically produces compact (miniature) plants with round pink flowers featuring a bright yellow throat, often blooming more than once per year in spring and fall. Its small size and attractive blooms make it a popular choice for collectors of smaller Cattleya‑alliance orchids.
Care Tips:
-
Light:
-
Provide bright, indirect light — this encourages healthy growth and flower production.
-
Avoid hot, direct midday sun to prevent leaf burn. (General Cattlianthe/Cattleya practice)
-
-
Temperature:
-
Best in intermediate to warm conditions (~20–30 °C / 68–86 °F during the day) with slightly cooler nights to simulate natural temperature fluctuations.
-
-
Watering:
-
Water thoroughly when the medium is nearly dry, then allow it to dry slightly between waterings.
-
Do not let roots sit in standing water to avoid rot.
-
-
Humidity & Airflow:
-
Maintain moderate humidity (about 50–70%).
-
Ensure good air circulation to reduce the risk of disease and support healthy root and leaf growth.
-
-
Growing Medium:
-
Use a well‑draining orchid bark mix or similar media to provide aeration at the roots.
-
Pots with good drainage are important.
-
-
Fertilizing:
-
During active growth, use a balanced orchid fertilizer at a light strength (¼–½ recommended) every 2–3 weeks.
-
Reduce feeding in cooler or slower growth periods.
-
-
Repotting:
-
Repot when the potting medium breaks down or the plant outgrows its container — typically every 1–2 years.
