Corybas geminigibbus is a rare and fascinating helmet orchid native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. This species thrives in lowland montane forests at elevations around 1,200 meters, where it grows on humus-rich ridges in humid environments.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Provide low to moderate indirect light, similar to the conditions under a forest canopy.
-
Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 13–27°C (55–80°F), with minimal seasonal variation.
-
Humidity: High humidity is essential; aim for levels above 60% to mimic its natural montane habitat.
-
Watering: Water sparingly, approximately once every 2–4 weeks. Ensure the growing medium remains moist but not waterlogged.
-
Substrate: Use a well-draining mix that retains moisture, such as coarse perlite, sphagnum moss, diatomaceous earth, and fine bark.
-
Container: Cultivate in a closed container or terrarium to maintain consistent moisture and humidity levels.
-
Fertilization: Apply a very diluted fertilizer (around 30 ppm nitrogen) less than once a month during the growing season.
-
Dormancy: Allow the plant to enter dormancy during dry periods; reduce watering and maintain cooler temperatures.
