Corybas shanlinshiensis

Corybas shanlinshiensis is a very small terrestrial orchid belonging to the genus Corybas, commonly known as helmet orchids. It typically produces a single leaf and a single flower, with the flower forming a hood-like structure created by a large dorsal sepal that curves over the reproductive column. The plant grows close to the ground and develops from a small underground tuber, making it easy to overlook in the wild.

This species is native to mountainous regions of southwestern China (Yunnan) and was originally recorded in Taiwan. It grows in cool, shaded forests at around 1,700–1,800 meters elevation, often on mossy, humus-rich slopes within pine–oak woodlands.

Its flowers are adapted for pollination by fungus gnats. These insects are attracted to the flower and carry pollen on their bodies, enabling cross-pollination. The plant does not self-pollinate effectively and depends on these insects to reproduce.
