Cymbidium erythrostylum

Cymbidium erythrostylum is a beautiful compact species native to Vietnam, where it grows around 1,500 m elevation as an epiphyte, lithophyte, or occasionally terrestrially. It develops narrow, flattened pseudobulbs and slender, arching foliage, with mature plants producing elegant flower spikes carrying several large, showy blooms. The flowers are predominantly white, often with a distinctive reddish to purple marking on the lip, creating a refined contrast. Its relatively compact growth compared with the impressive flower size makes C. erythrostylum particularly desirable for species collectors.

Care Tips:

• Provide bright light with some protection from strong midday sun; morning sun or light shade is ideal.
• Prefer cool to intermediate conditions, especially cooler nights during the period of flower initiation.
• Keep the potting medium evenly moist during active growth, but provide excellent drainage.
• Reduce watering during winter and allow the plant to become somewhat drier, particularly in cool conditions.
• Maintain moderate humidity and good air circulation, as the fine foliage can be sensitive to dry air and strong winds.
• Use a well-draining Cymbidium or terrestrial orchid mix that retains some moisture without becoming soggy.
• Fertilize regularly during active growth with a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer.
• Repot preferably after flowering, disturbing the roots as little as possible.
