Dendrobium amethystoglossum

Dendrobium amethystoglossum is a striking, cool-growing epiphytic orchid native to northern Luzon in the Philippines, where it grows in wet tropical montane environments. It forms tall, slender, cane-like pseudobulbs with narrow green leaves and produces impressive pendulous racemes from the upper portions of mature canes. The numerous waxy flowers are predominantly white to pale cream, beautifully marked with rich amethyst-purple coloration on the lip, creating the distinctive contrast reflected in its name. The graceful cascading flower sprays and unusual purple-and-white coloration make this species a highly desirable choice for collectors of unusual Dendrobium species.

• Provide bright, filtered light with good air circulation; gentle morning sun is beneficial.
• Prefer cool to intermediate temperatures, especially during winter, with noticeable day/night temperature variation.
• Grow in a very open, fast-draining orchid medium such as medium bark, or mount it if adequate humidity can be maintained.
