Dendrobium christyanum is a miniature epiphytic orchid native to the highland cloud forests of northern Vietnam, northern Thailand, and southwestern China. It thrives at elevations between 800 and 1,600 meters (2,600 to 5,200 feet), where it experiences cool, humid conditions, making it well-suited for cultivation in terrariums where temperature and humidity can be carefully managed.
Features:
-
Size: Typically grows to about 8–14 cm (3–6 inches) in height.
-
Pseudobulbs: Caespitose (clustered), subclavate (club-shaped), and abbreviated, measuring 5–8 cm long.
-
Leaves: Two lanceolate, obtuse leaves, 3–6 cm long, covered with black hairs beneath.
-
Flowers: Single, fragrant blooms approximately 5 cm in diameter, creamy white with a broad, violin-shaped lip featuring a bright orange-yellow spot at the center.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf scorching.
-
Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures.
-
Humidity: Requires high humidity levels, ideally between 50% and 80%.
-
Watering: Water regularly during the growing season (spring to early autumn), allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during the rest period in winter.
-
