Dendrobium farmeri is a striking orchid species native to Southeast Asia, including regions like the eastern Himalayas, Assam, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Malaysia. It thrives in humid, tropical environments at elevations ranging from 150 to 1,000 meters above sea level. It is characterized by its four-angled pseudobulbs and produces clusters of pendulous flowers, typically blooming in spring.

Features:

  • Stems: The plant features clavate or fusiform, four-angled stems adorned with 2 to 4 coriaceous, ovate-lanceolate leaves near the apex.

  • Flowers: In spring, it produces long, 8-inch pendent, densely flowered, cylindrical racemes from the nodes near the apex of both leafed and leafless canes.

  • Blooming Period: Typically blooms in spring, with flowers lasting 2–3 weeks under optimal care.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Requires bright, filtered sunlight. Insufficient light may hinder blooming.

  • Temperature: Prefers intermediate to warm temperatures, mirroring its native habitat.

  • Watering: Maintain consistent moisture during the growing season. Reduce watering during winter to mimic its natural dry period.

  • Humidity: Thrives in humid conditions; regular misting can help prevent pseudobulb shriveling.

  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during the growing season. Withhold feeding during the winter rest period.

  • Potting: Suitable for both potting and mounting. Ensure the medium is well-draining, such as a mix of sphagnum moss or medium fir bark.
