Dendrobium glomeratum is a striking epiphytic orchid native to the Moluccas and Sulawesi in Indonesia. This species is celebrated for its vibrant purple flowers with bright orange lips, which bloom in dense clusters along pendulous canes.

Features:

  • Flowers: Clusters of 3–10 rich purple or pink blooms, each approximately 3 cm across, featuring an orange lip.

  • Blooming Season: Primarily in spring and summer, often on leafless canes.

Care Tips:

Light: Requires medium to bright indirect light, approximately 10,000–20,000 lux, akin to conditions suitable for Phalaenopsis orchids.

Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to cool conditions with daytime temperatures of 27–31°C and nighttime temperatures of 23–25°C, maintaining a diurnal temperature variation of 4–7°C.

Humidity: Prefers high humidity levels, around 85–90% during spring and autumn, increasing to 90–95% in winter.

Watering: Maintain consistent moisture, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in late autumn and winter, but avoid letting the plant dry out completely.

Substrate: Best grown mounted on tree fern or cork bark in high humidity environments. If potted, use shallow containers with a loose, fast-draining medium.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer at half strength monthly during the growing season.

Rest Period: Undergoes a dormancy phase in winter; during this time, reduce watering unless the plant shows signs of dehydration. This rest period encourages blooming in spring.
