Dendrobium goldschmidtianum is a vibrant epiphytic orchid native to the jungles of Taiwan (Lan Yu Island) and the Philippines. It thrives at elevations of approximately 300 meters above sea level, growing on Ficus trees in humid, tropical environments.

Features:

  • Size: Medium to large epiphyte, with unbranched, cane-like stems reaching 60–80 cm in length.

  • Leaves: Deciduous, linear-lanceolate, measuring approximately 8 cm long and 3–3.5 cm wide.

  • Flowers: Clusters of 4–8 small, fragrant pink flowers, each about 1.3–2 cm in diameter, with a triple-lobed lip and a distinctive yellow-orange center.

  • Blooming Season: Late winter to early spring, with a secondary bloom possible in late summer to early fall.

Care Tips:

Light: Prefers bright, indirect light and can tolerate direct sunlight up to 70,000 lux. Optimal placement includes southern, southwestern, western, or southeastern windows. Inadequate light may result in elongated pseudobulbs and reduced blooming.

Temperature: Thrives in moderate warmth with daytime temperatures ranging from 18–30°C (64–86°F) and nighttime temperatures not falling below 12°C (54°F). A temperature drop of at least 4°C (7°F) at night is beneficial.

Humidity: Requires a minimum relative humidity of 50%. In high humidity conditions, ensure proper ventilation to prevent fungal and bacterial diseases.

Watering: Water generously, allowing excess water to drain freely to prevent root rot. Maintain slightly moist roots, avoiding prolonged dryness.

Substrate & Repotting: Use a well-draining substrate composed of coniferous bark, charcoal, peat, and sphagnum moss, supplemented with granite pebbles for stability. Repot only when necessary, such as when the substrate becomes excessively saline or compacted.

Fertilization: During active growth, feed your Dendrobium goldschmidtianum monthly with half the recommended concentration of orchid fertilizer.

Rest Period: Enjoy the continuous beauty of your orchid year-round, as it does not require a rest period for flowering or growth stimulation. With sufficient light, the plant maintains its green foliage and blooms cyclically as new pseudobulbs form.
