Dendrobium klabatense is a small epiphytic orchid species native to the montane forests of North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It thrives at elevations between 500 and 1150 meters, typically growing as an epiphyte on trees in volcanic slopes.

Features:

  • Habitat: Found at elevations between 500 and 1,150 meters in montane forests on volcanic slopes, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees.

  • Growth Habit: Characterized by pendulous, slender, grooved stems that are occasionally branching. These stems bear lanceolate, acute leaves with unequal, two-toothed apices.

  • Flowers: Blooms in late fall and early winter, producing small, two-flowered inflorescences that arise from the nodes along older, leafless stems. The flowers are white with a faint pink hue and a yellow lip.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. In indoor settings, placing it within 3 feet of a south-facing window is ideal.

  • Temperature: Tolerates a range from cool to intermediate temperatures, with a minimum of 55°F and a maximum of 85°F.

  • Watering: Requires regular watering, approximately 0.5 cups every 9 days when not exposed to direct sunlight and potted in a 5" pot.

  • Humidity: Maintains humidity levels between 60% and 85%, similar to its native montane forest environment.

  • Potting Medium: Utilizes a well-draining, airy medium such as New Zealand sphagnum moss or a bark-based mix.

  • Repotting: Repot every 2 to 3 years in spring, or when the plant outgrows its pot.
