Dendrobium officinale is a rare and elegant miniature orchid species native to the subtropical highlands of China, Taiwan, and Japan. First described in 1936, it thrives in cool, humid environments at elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 meters above sea level, making it well-suited for terrariums.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
-
Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm temperatures, ideally between 18–28°C (64–82°F). A slight nighttime temperature drop is beneficial.
-
Humidity: Prefers high humidity levels, ideally between 80–85%.
-
Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, allowing the medium to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during the dormant period.
-
Fertilization: Apply a balanced orchid fertilizer during the growing season.
-
Substrate: Suitable for cultivation in well-draining orchid mix, mounted on cork or tree fern slabs, or in hanging baskets.
-
Rest Period: After blooming, allow the plant to rest by reducing watering and feeding to encourage new growth.
