Dendrobium victoriae-reginae is an epiphytic orchid species native to the Philippines, typically found in cool to cold montane environments at high elevations of about 1,300–2,700 meters.
Features:
-
The plant has thin, pendulous, clumping pseudobulbs with pointed, papery leaves.
-
Its flowers are about 3–4 cm wide, often violet or blue-lavender with a white center.
-
Blooming occurs from older, leafless canes (stems), which can produce one to three flowers per raceme.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Provide bright, filtered light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.
-
Temperature & Humidity: Prefers cool to intermediate conditions with good air movement and high humidity.
-
Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist but well-draining. During its dormancy phase (winter), reduce watering.
-
Growing Medium: Use an epiphytic mix, for example a bark-based mix, possibly mounted or in a basket, to mimic how it grows naturally.
-
Blooming: Do not remove old canes after flowering — these can rebloom in later seasons.
