Dendrobium wangliangii is a rare and delicate orchid species native to the temperate regions of northern Yunnan Province, China. This species is notable for its compact size and cold-growing nature, thriving at elevations between 1,000 and 2,200 meters in deciduous mixed and evergreen forests, often found on Quercus trees.

Features:

  • Size: Miniature to micro-miniature; plants typically measure 2–3 cm in length.

  • Stems: Fusiform to slightly obovoid, decumbent, unbranched, with 3 to 6 nodes.

  • Leaves: 2 to 4, distichous, elliptic, acute, membranous, tightly embracing the stem.

  • Flowers: Approximately 1.6 inches (4 cm) in diameter, pink in color, and typically lack fragrance.

  • Blooming: Occurs in late spring on short, suberect, subterminal, single-flowered inflorescences arising on leafless mature stems.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect light.

  • Temperature: Prefers cool to cold conditions, with daytime temperatures between 15–25°C (59–77°F) and nighttime temperatures around 10–15°C (50–59°F).

  • Humidity: Maintains moderate humidity levels.

  • Watering: Needs regular watering during the growing season (spring to early fall), allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

  • Rest Period: Requires a dry, cool rest period in winter to stimulate blooming.

  • Mounting: Best grown mounted on bark or cork to mimic its natural epiphytic habitat.
