Deparia lancea is native to a wide area across Asia, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, China (South-Central, Southeast, Hainan), Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Indochina, the Philippines, and Borneo, where it typically grows in moist, shaded environments such as forest understories, valleys, stream banks, and mountain slopes, from near sea level up to around 500 meters in elevation.

Feature:

  • A fern with a creeping rhizome, rhizome slender, black or brown with lanceolate scales.

  • Fronds (leaves) single (not divided), lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate / linear-lanceolate in shape, about 10-25 cm long, ~2-3 cm wide. Margin entire or slightly wavy.

  • Leaf stalk (stipe) about 8-15 cm; lower part with scales; upper part relatively smooth.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Prefers partial shade to shaded light; avoid direct sun, especially harsh midday sun.

  • Water: Keep soil or substrate consistently moist but with good drainage; avoid letting it dry out fully.

  • Humidity: Likes high humidity (since native to moist forest understory).

  • Temperature: Mild to warm; tends not to tolerate frost; comfortable in temperate to subtropical conditions.

  • Soil/Substrate: Rich, humus-rich, well-draining; can use soil mixed with organic matter; good mulch/leaf litter mimic forest floor conditions.

  • Propagation: By spores or division of rhizomes.
