Gastrochilus yunnanensis (Schltr., 1919) is an epiphytic orchid native to southern China (Yunnan and parts of Tibet), northern Vietnam, northern Thailand, and Bangladesh. It grows on tree trunks in montane forests, often at elevations around 1200-2000 m. It’s a miniature plant with a short creeping stem, small distichous leaves, and flowers that appear in clusters (umbels), having colors of pale yellow-green with spots.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Avoid direct midday sun which may scorch leaves.

  • Humidity: Maintain relatively high humidity (60-80%) to mimic its natural montane forest environment. Good air circulation helps.

  • Watering: Water frequently during warm periods, but allow medium to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root and stem rot. Reduce watering when growth slows.

  • Temperature: Prefers intermediate to warm conditions; avoid exposure to cold or frost.

  • Substrate / Mounting: Grow mounted on wood or bark, or in a very well-draining orchid mix. Avoid waterlogging.
