Habenaria Regnieri

Habenaria Regnieri is a registered primary hybrid between Habenaria carnea × Habenaria rhodocheila.

The hybrid combines the beautifully mottled foliage of H. carnea with the strong flower coloration associated with the H. rhodocheila complex. Plants can produce attractive pink to hot-pink flowers on upright stems, while the foliage often develops bluish-green or olive-green coloration with pale spotting.

Care Tips:

• Light: Provide low to medium, filtered light. Avoid intense direct midday sunlight. H. carnea and its hybrids generally perform well under filtered light.
• Watering: Keep the medium consistently moist during active growth, but avoid waterlogging. Habenaria should not be allowed to repeatedly dry out while actively growing.
• Growing Medium: Use a loose, well-draining terrestrial orchid mix that retains some moisture, such as fine bark, sphagnum and perlite.
• Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial, with good airflow to prevent fungal problems.
• Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions are suitable during active growth, around 18–29°C (65–85°F). Protect from frost.
• Fertilizing: Feed lightly with a diluted balanced orchid fertilizer during active growth. Avoid excessive fertilizer and flush the medium periodically.
• Airflow: Provide gentle, continuous air movement, especially in warm and humid conditions.
• Dormancy: After flowering, the leaves naturally yellow and die back. Gradually reduce watering and keep the dormant tuber mostly dry through the resting period. Resume watering when new growth appears.
• Repotting: Repot while dormant or just before new growth begins. Handle the tubers carefully.
• Flowering: Good light and consistent moisture during active growth encourage stronger flowering. Mature plants can develop multiple growths and produce an impressive flowering display.
