Hoya bakoensis Albomarginata

Hoya bakoensis Albomarginata is a rare and attractive variegated form of Hoya bakoensis, featuring small, elegant leaves with distinctive creamy white margins. The compact foliage develops along slender, lightly climbing stems, creating a neat and delicate appearance. With bright light, the variegated margins can develop attractive pink to reddish tones, creating a beautiful contrast against the dark green leaves. Native to the wet tropical forests of Sarawak, Borneo, Hoya bakoensis is an epiphytic species that naturally grows in shady forest conditions. The Albomarginata form is especially sought after by Hoya collectors for its small foliage, compact habit, and crisp variegation.

Care Tips:

• Light: Provide bright, indirect or filtered light. Good light helps maintain strong variegation, while harsh direct sun can scorch the pale leaf margins.
• Temperature: Keep warm, ideally around 20–30°C (68–86°F). Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures below 15°C (59°F).
• Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial, especially while the plant is establishing. Once well rooted, it can tolerate average household humidity better than some tropical Hoyas.
• Watering: Water thoroughly, then allow the growing medium to partially dry before watering again. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
• Growing Medium: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining mix such as orchid bark, perlite, and organic material.
• Airflow: Provide good air circulation, particularly in high-humidity environments.
• Fertilizing: Feed lightly with a diluted balanced fertilizer during active growth.
• Support: The slender stems can be trained around a small trellis or allowed to trail naturally.
