Hoya carnosa ‘Compacta Albomarginata’ is a variegated form of Hoya carnosa compacta (commonly known as “Hindu Rope”), featuring outer variegation with green centers and creamy white or pale-yellow margins that highlight the plant’s tightly curled, rope-like leaves.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid harsh midday or direct strong sun, which can scorch the margins. More light helps maintain clean, strong variegation.
-
Watering: Let the potting medium dry somewhat between waterings. Overwatering leads to root rot, especially since the leaves store water. Water less in cooler/darker months.
-
Temperature: Warm conditions are best. Ideal daytime temps around 66-86°F (19-30°C). Avoid letting night or ambient temps drop below about 50-55°F (10-13°C).
-
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps. If ambient humidity is low, misting, placing near humidifiers, or using pebble trays helps.
-
Soil / Potting Medium: Use a well-draining, airy mix. Components like orchid bark, perlite, or similar chunky materials assist drainage. The soil should not stay soggy.
-
Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth (spring through summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding during slower growth periods.
-
Pruning & Propagation: Trim back long vines for shape. Propagate via stem cuttings with nodes. Ensure cuttings get warmth, humidity and bright indirect light.
