Hoya corymbosa is a rare and unusual epiphytic shrub from Sabah, Borneo, distinguished from the more familiar climbing Hoyas by its compact, horizontally growing habit. It produces small, attractive foliage and diminutive yellowish flowers, with unusual anvil-shaped corona lobes that are characteristic of the species. Unlike most Hoyas, which are climbing or trailing epiphytes, H. corymbosa develops as a low-growing epiphytic shrub, making it particularly interesting for collectors of unusual Hoya species.

Care Tips:

  • Provide bright, filtered light with gentle morning or late-afternoon sun.
  • Use a very airy, fast-draining substrate such as orchid bark, perlite, and coco-based material.
  • Keep the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged, allowing the upper layer to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Maintain high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good air circulation.
  • Keep temperatures warm and stable, avoiding prolonged exposure to cold.
  • Avoid using an oversized pot; Hoyas generally flower better when kept slightly root-bound.
  • Avoid removing old flower spurs after blooming, as future flower clusters can develop from the same peduncles.
  • Because H. corymbosa is naturally a small epiphytic shrub rather than a vigorous climber, it is well suited to compact pots or mounted displays.
