Hoya curtisii is a petite, creeping epiphytic plant native to Southeast Asia (Thailand, the Philippines, Borneo, and Malaysia), characterized by its tiny, slightly pointed, roundish succulent leaves in olive green with silvery-grey mottling. It forms dense mats or trailing vines, making it ideal for hanging baskets or shallow pots, and when in bloom, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped, waxy flowers typical of Hoya species.
Features:
-
Very small, thick, leathery leaves with a silver-speckled pattern.
-
Compact and trailing growth habit — great for hanging or surface coverage.
-
Collector-friendly due to its delicate foliage and space-efficient growth.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light is best. It tolerates some direct sun, but too much can scorch the leaves.
-
Watering: Let the soil dry out between waterings. Overwatering is a common mistake.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining, airy mix (orchid bark + perlite + coco or peat) to mimic its epiphytic nature.
-
Temperature & Humidity: Prefers warm temperatures (65–75 °F / ~18–24 °C) and moderate to high humidity.
-
Fertilizer: Use a diluted, balanced fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
-
Potting: A shallow or wide pot helps, allowing it to form a mat or cascade. From growers: a shallow pot helps new roots establish.
