Hoya danumensis

Hoya danumensis is a rare and elegant climbing epiphytic Hoya native to Borneo and Sumatra, particularly associated with the wet tropical forests of Danum Valley, Sabah. It develops slender, twining stems with thin, elongated green leaves and prominent venation. The highlight is its unusual campanulate, bell-shaped flowers, which are creamy white to pure white and can reach approximately 4 cm (1.6 in) across when fully open. Flowers are produced in rounded clusters of around 10–15 blooms and have a delicate, pleasant fragrance. The combination of large bell-shaped flowers, graceful foliage, and relative rarity makes H. danumensis a particularly desirable species for collectors.

• Use a very airy, well-draining epiphytic mix such as orchid bark, perlite, and coco-based materials.
• Water thoroughly, then allow the growing medium to dry substantially before watering again.
• Maintain 60–80% humidity with good air circulation.
• Keep temperatures warm to intermediate, ideally around 20–30°C (68–86°F), while protecting the plant from prolonged cold.
• Provide a trellis or climbing support for its slender, vigorous stems.
• Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer during active growth.
• Avoid removing mature flower peduncles, as established spurs can produce flowers again.
