Hoya engleriana

Hoya engleriana Hosseus is an accepted Hoya species native to Indochina, including Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Hoya engleriana is an attractive tropical Hoya with a naturally climbing growth habit and fleshy green foliage. As an epiphytic species, it is well adapted to growing in an airy environment with excellent drainage around its roots. Mature plants can produce the characteristic waxy, star-shaped Hoya flowers in clusters.

Care Tips:

• Light: Provide bright, indirect or filtered light. Gentle morning or late-afternoon sunlight is beneficial, while strong midday sun should be filtered.
• Watering: Allow the growing medium to partially dry between waterings, then water thoroughly. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
• Growing Medium: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining mix such as orchid bark, perlite, and organic material. Excellent drainage is especially important for an epiphytic Hoya.
• Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial. Around 60–80% humidity works well when combined with good airflow.
• Temperature: Keep warm, ideally around 18–30°C (65–86°F). Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures below 15°C (59°F).
• Airflow: Provide gentle, consistent airflow, particularly in humid conditions.
• Fertilizing: Feed lightly with a diluted balanced fertilizer during active growth. Avoid heavy fertilization.
• Support: Provide a small trellis, hoop, or other support for the climbing stems, or allow the plant to trail naturally.
• Potting: Avoid using an oversized pot. Hoyas generally perform well when kept somewhat root-bound rather than in an excessively large container.
• Flowering: Once flower buds appear, keep the plant's light, temperature, and watering conditions stable. Avoid moving the plant suddenly, as changes during bud development can cause bud drop. Leave old flower spurs intact for potential future flowering.
