Hoya globulosa (syn. Hoya villosa) is a distinctive climbing epiphyte or lithophyte native from the Himalayas through southern China and Indochina. Mature leaves can develop strongly pronounced, dark green veins, creating an attractive textured appearance. The species produces dense, rounded umbels of up to around 30 small, waxy, pale straw-yellow to cream flowers, with a pink to reddish-brown coloration around the corona. The flowers are produced mainly from spring into summer and are pleasantly fragrant.
Care Tips:
- Provide bright, filtered light with gentle morning or late-afternoon sun.
- Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining substrate such as orchid bark, perlite, and coco-based materials.
- Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the medium begins to dry, avoiding prolonged waterlogging.
- Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good air circulation.
- Keep temperatures intermediate to warm, while protecting the plant from prolonged cold.
- Provide a trellis or climbing support for its vigorous stems.
- Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer during active growth.
- Do not remove mature flower peduncles, as Hoyas can produce successive flower clusters from established spurs.
